New projects in the field of psychoacoustics

The HEAD Genuit Foundation is proud to be able to fund a highlight project initiated by its founder, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Genuit, starting in 2025: the four-year research training group MOSAIC – Multi-dOmain and context-dependent Spatial approaches to AcoustIC well-being.
Consortium leadership: Prof. Dr. Marcel Schweiker, Prof. Dr. Janina Fels.
Duration: July 2025 to June 2029 (48 months)

Eight chairs from RWTH Aachen University, University Hospital Aachen and TU Berlin have come together in the consortium to research the topic of ‘acoustic well-being’ from different disciplinary backgrounds and perspectives. All of the colleagues involved in the project are driving forces or lighthouses in their field. The overarching goal of the Research Training Group is the cross-disciplinary, cross-domain and cross-scale promotion and further development of the construct of ‘acoustic well-being’ in the context of the multi-domain and context-dependent spatial approach, which is also intended to make a substantial contribution to the still young field of soundscape research. The thematic focus is on the consideration of multiple factors influencing the evaluation of the acoustic environment in indoor and outdoor spaces.

In addition to individual and collaborative research work, the Research Training Group aims to expand the professional and methodological skills of doctoral students across disciplines. The aim is to prepare future generations of scientists for increased interdisciplinary collaboration on the topic of acoustics between the participating disciplines and beyond. This creates exceptional opportunities for the promotion of young scientists, who can work on highly topical, innovative scientific issues with an interdisciplinary approach and at the same time be integrated into an extensive network.

The HEAD Genuit Foundation is pleased to support a pioneering research project in the field of air mobility: “Noise pollution from drones and electric aircraft in modern air mobility” / Dr. Eng. Marco Oliveira, duration January 2025 – March 2026 (15 months)

In the coming years, urban and short-haul transportation will change as drones and electric aircraft rapidly gain importance worldwide. The anticipated benefits are offset by concerns about negative impacts, particularly noise pollution. This postdoctoral research project aims to comprehensively investigate the noise impacts of drones and electric aircraft on urban soundscapes and public perception. The psychoacoustic assessment of transport drones in particular with regard to soundscape and level distribution in cities is important. A deeper understanding of noise impacts will allow us to work towards creating quieter and more sustainable environments for future generations.
